Education

This undergraduate-level course corresponds to the second unit of the «A Discourse on Social Action» series, a text developed by FUNDAEC after more than a decade of implementing its educational programs in various contexts. The course provides participants with an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of education—both in general terms and in relation to their own learning journey—within the context of their efforts to contribute to the transformation of society.

Course content

Education plays a fundamental role in the lives of those who aspire to contribute to social transformation. For this reason, this second unit focuses on analyzing the purpose and nature of educational processes aimed at the moral and intellectual empowerment of participants, placing special emphasis on the importance of strengthening understanding and developing moral capabilities as pillars of these efforts.

The text invites students to explore key concepts and processes related to education, fostering a more proactive attitude toward their own learning. Some of the topics addressed throughout the course are the importance of understanding concepts in depth rather than merely assimilating information, the complex relationship between theory and practice, the consequences of knowledge fragmentation on thought and action, and the capacity building approach as a tool for empowerment, among others.

Who is it aimed at?

This course is especially designed for university students interested in actively participating in social action initiatives and contributing to the prevalent discourses of society. Additionally, it offers a valuable learning opportunity for educators in both formal and non-formal settings, welcoming teachers, coordinators, and administrators at all educational levels, as well as individuals involved in NGOs and community development processes who wish to explore the nature of educational processes that lead to the empowerment of participants for individual and collective transformation.
