Basic Concepts
This undergraduate-level course corresponds to the first unit of the «A Discourse on Social Action» series, a text developed by FUNDAEC after more than a decade of implementing its educational programs in various contexts. The course provides participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of fundamental concepts that give meaning to their individual and collective efforts for social transformation.
Course content
Your decision to undertake this course is undoubtedly an expression of your desire to engage in meaningful social action. We live in turbulent times in the history of humankind—moments of both peril and opportunity. The spirit of the age awakens a yearning to work for the betterment of society, dedicating time, energy, and talents to selfless service to humanity. However, it is not always easy to know how to contribute to achieving meaningful and lasting change or how to share insights gained through study and experience with others engaged in transformation processes across different fields of human endeavor.
For this reason, the purpose of this unit is to help you explore a set of concepts that we consider highly relevant in efforts to participate in a discourse on social action. Throughout its 11 chapters, the text invites us to reflect on the processes of integration and disintegration, the twofold purpose, attraction to beauty, the investigation of truth, service, family, society, community, and learning.
Who is it aimed at?
This course is especially designed for university students who are committed to social change initiatives and strive to contribute—through their growing experience and understanding—to the prevalent discourses of society. Likewise, these courses offer a valuable learning opportunity for individuals involved in NGOs, educational programs, and community development processes who wish to further enhance their capacity to help build a better world.
